While local angler Kim Vitale, below left, saw plenty of boils out at Sunshine Reef on Saturday morning he got little joy from targeting the activity. He did, however, nail this 9.5kg (cleaned) Yellowfin Tuna by trolling a Rapala CD-8 lure in the general vicinity, much to his delight. He was using a 10kg Shimano Backbone rod, a Shimano TLD25 reel and 10kg line.

Eight year old Sid Pye (above right), from Walgett in New South Wales, boated his first reef fish yesterday morning when he nailed this 1.0kg Squire while out on a half day trip to North Reef with the boys from Noosa Blue Water Charters. Sid was kitted out with a Gary Howard custom rod and an Alvey 725C reel loaded with 30lb Pioneer Flexline.

With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday period we somehow (unfortunately) managed to overlook the photo of young local angler Nick Heaney's thumper Saratoga that should have been included in last week's report. Sorry about that Nick, we do our best but these things sometimes happen around this time of the year.

Nick caught and released the quality 71cm specimen he's pictured with (and one other 70cm fish) out at Borumba Dam last Friday week. Nick's outfit was a G-Loomis Crankbait rod and a Shimano Calcutta 200 reel loaded with 14lb Fireline and 14lb Berkley 'Vanish' leader. The lure that got the result on the day was a 3/8oz Producer spinnerbait.
