As we said earlier, the snapper were in excellent numbers
and of good quality at North Reef this week. Local lad Billy Kneale (below)
was out there with his dad late on Saturday and while there was the odd
comment about it being a bit breezy and chilly there were no complaints
about the catch. This 6.6kg 'Knobby' and one other were the standouts
from a productive trip. Billy was armed with a Penn rod and a Shimano
TLD15 reel loaded with 30lb braid and 60lb mono leader.
North Reef produced a lot of northern bluefin tuna this week so it's no wonder it was the number one destination for locals and visitors alike. Brothers Luke and Simon Becroft (below) from Mudjimba spent some time there on Tuesday on a Cougar One charter and got into the 'Longtails' big time. Most of these fish, by the way, went for soft plastics. ![]() And on the same charter, Jake Crouch (below) from Cleveland in Brisbane boated this quality 5kg snapper. He was kitted out with an Abu Sonar Tip rod and a Shimano 6500 Baitrunner reel loaded with 10kg line. His bait? A floated pilchard. ![]() |
