| There were certainly plenty of Cobia around over the weekend as young Reidy Hall from Ascot in Brisbane (below left) found when he joined a full day Cougar Too charter to North Reef on Saturday. Reidy's 'Black Kingfish' (his first ever of that species) tipped the scales at 8kg. He was kitted out with a Wilson Live Fibre rod and an Okuma threadline reel. | |

| And of course the Mackerel Tuna were again in good numbers, although the 8kg specimen that young Jessica Rusten from Chapel Hill (above right) in Brisbane caught on the same charter would have been one of the top weights for that species. This was her first ever offshore fishing experience so it was a good effort considering how hard these fish fight. | |

| Newbie yak angler Alex Keifer (above and left in photo) boated his first Mackerel Tuna on Saturday morning and at 3kg and 5.5kg it was a good debut. Alex was out near Little Hall's reef with other members of the Perception Yak Anglers Club when he got his result, with the rest of the catch being school Mackerel, more Mackerel Tuna and in the case of James 'Legend' Grant (right in photo) a small Cobia and a Snapper which he picked up trolling a Gold Bomber across Jew Shoal earlier in the morning. Alex was armed with a Shakespeare Ugly Stik and a Daiwa 5000 Regal Z reel loaded with 25lb Platinum line. His lure? A gold Reidy's B52. | ![]() |
