OFFSHORE: A brief blast of strong (20 to 25 knot) south easterlies wrote off Wednesday and Thursday but that was the extent of the bad news. Light to moderate variable easterlies dominated for the rest of the week and with the outside swell in the 0.5m to 0.75m range, it was a great time to be on the water.
Snapper
Conditions on the outer reefs were as good as they get. Jason, Greg and Dave (above) did an overnighter at The Hards on Monday and came back with pearl perch, venus tuskers, cobia, amberjack and their bag limit of snapper. They're pictured with their three standout knobbies, taken on squid/pilchard baits.
Pearl Perch
Trekka 2 targeted The Barwon Banks on Saturday where they got onto snapper, pearl perch, venus tusk fish, hussar and moses perch. Nick Nayler from Adelaide (above) did the honours with a couple of nice pearlies from that full day charter. Chardon's Wide produced snapper, teraglin jewfish, venus tusk fish, hussar, pearl perch and gold band snapper. Georgia Mitchell from Melbourne (below left) boated this gold band there on Tuesday's Cougar One charter.

And Brad Hardy from Brisbane (above right) is pictured with the day's standout pearl perch from Saturday's full day Wild Thing charter to Chardon's Wide.
Mahi Mahi or Dolphin Fish
On the way back in, Wild Thing Paul Glover spotted a drifting buoy in the water. Any flotsam is worth a look as mahi mahi or dolphin fish like to hang around structure. Sure enough, the buoy had a school of them under it. They boated a dozen or so smaller fish but Jamie McFarlane, above, nailed the top weight.
Snapper
Apart from mahi mahi, Chardon's Reef was good for snapper, teraglin jewfish and venus tusk fish, as was North Reef but with the added bonus of sweetlip, pearl perch, moses perch, Maori cod, mowong, hussar, gold spot cod and cobia. Brisbane angler Craig Hackett (above) fished North on Saturday and was delighted when his whole pilchard floater was taken by this 7.5kg knobby. This top weight fish took out this week's $50.00 Davo's Fish of the Week prize.
Snapper Grass Sweetlip
Still on North Reef; Sam Fisher from Ballarat (above) did well to hold these two nice snapper for the camera. They were from Monday's Trekka 2 charter. And Josh Tomlinson from Cootharaba (above right) boated his 3kg grass sweetlip at North Reef that afternoon. He was using yakka fillets as his draw card
Cobia
And Sabina Tregilgas from Papua New Guinea (above) and her girlfriends celebrated her birthday with trip to North Reef on Cougar One on Saturday. As often happens on these occasions, Sabina boated the standout of the day, a 12kg (est) cobia. Nice fish. They were all off out to dinner that night but I think the cobia would have been on the barbecue the next day. Apart from that, The Coffees produced some good jewfish, cobia and snapper (see below) while Sunshine Reef yielded sweetlip, snapper, Maori cod and venus tusk fish. In Laguna Bay; Jew Shoal had snapper while at Little Hall's the catch was sweetlip.
