| OFFSHORE: The offshore
scene was pretty much a non event most of the week with the cool, 15 to
20 knot variable southerlies making it just chilly enough, lumpy enough
and sloppy enough to put most boaties off, at least until today. The bar
was a 'cross with caution' scenario and while a few keen die-hards got out
and worked the bay in the latter part of the week there wasn't much of a
result from there. Today looked a bit more inviting with the south easterly
wind easing back into the more comfortable 5 to 10 knot range. Those who
ventured out, however, reported conditions outside the bay to be still rather
Gary Norris (above) and his good fishing buddy Brian Kaiser-Cleak (below) took a run to North Reef today and although it was rockin' and rollin' and a bit joggly they hung in there long enough to boat Gary's 7.5kg Spanish mackerel and Brian's 2kg+ snapper. Both fish went for live yakkas on paternoster rigs.
The only other offshore report that came in today was from the crew of the Noosa Blue Water Charters vessel Cougar One. They fished Sunshine Reef on a late start, half day charter this morning, coming back with moses perch, venus tusk fish, black tip reef shark, grass sweetlip and a few small snapper.
The prize pool destined for the River to Reef Family Fishing Classic is starting to pile up at Davo's Compleat Angler in Noosaville and, pictured above, we have proprietor Peter Wells with one of the two boat package prizes, the Stessco Bass Tracker SF430. Complete with trailer, 30hp motor, fish finder, safety gear and fishing tackle, this rig is valued at $15,000.00. Remember, you only have to be entered in the competition to be in the draw for either boat.
